Potomac College Welcomes Our New Board Chair Dr. Dora Carbonell

The Board of Trustees is pleased to announce, at the July annual meeting of the Board of Trustees, Dr. Dora Carbonell was appointed as the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Potomac College. Dr Carbonell has served on the Potomac Board since the late winter and brings to Potomac College a wealth of education, administration and regulatory experience. Dr. Carbonell was most recently a public member of the Middle States Commissioner, serving on the Commission's Executive Committee, and her familiarity with the Potomac College regulatory environment and requirements will be extremely valuable as Potomac College continues to improve the educational quality and administration of our Institution.
Dr. Carbonell has extensive experience in higher education, and before returning to the U.S and Puerto Rico, she served as the Vice President for Academic Affairs for International University in Geneva. Dr. Carbonell also served as the Vice President for Academic Affairs at European University overseeing and providing academic support for the Switzerland, Spain and Belgium campuses. Before moving to Europe, she was Associate Dean of the School of Business, Public Administration, and Information Technology at Long Island University. While at Long Island University (LIU), Dr. Carbonell was very engaged in Curriculum Development, Faculty and Campus Administration serving on several committees including the faculty promotion and tenure committee; Dr. Carbonell looks to bring the best practices in faculty engagement and collaborative learning to our Institution.
Dr. Carbonell is particularly proud of her work with Minority Businesses. During her tenure at LIU, as the Director of The Minority and Women's Business Institute, Dr. Carbonell applied for, and was issued, a grant from the U.S. Small Business Administration which assisted minorities in their business ventures. This was the first Small Business Development Center in the New York City area, and was focused to assist small minority businesses in the Borough of Brooklyn as one of 42 small business development centers throughout the U.S.; she was the first woman to direct one of the New York State centers.
Dr. Carbonell is a graduate of the International Institute of the Americas in Puerto Rico. She received her Master in Education and her Doctorate in Adult and Higher Education from Teachers College of Columbia University.
Dr. Carbonell will focus on creating more faculty, student and alumni engagement at Potomac College in order to fulfill the exciting new Mission Statement that our community has developed. Dr. Carbonell has a long and illustrative career in education which will serve the Potomac students, faculty, administration and alumni well.
